The Journey
Art has been a large part of my life as far as I can remember, it has always moved me and informed how I view the world. My father is what we would call an aesthete, although he would probably roll his eyes at the fact I referred to him as one. We would sit and discuss music, paintings, artists, art history, and art movements. I then took that youthful intrigue into a few basic studies after high school. No, I didn’t get an art degree…but I did take a few courses to learn more of the technical aspects of art itself as well as to try to understand the “why” in art. Why is art so exclusive, why is art so informed, why is art so motivational, and why is art so crucial?
What I learned was, although art and the creation thereof, require vast amounts of knowledge, insight, and most of all - empathy - an artist doesn’t create this art with the intention for it to be exclusive. Art is enforced by the preferences of a few individuals that harness vast amounts of power and influence. But there is an inherent disconnect between the artist's drive and the collector's desire. This juxtaposition creates what we call the art “market”.
It is partly with this realization that the idea for Art Y Honey was born. The wish is that art was no longer exclusive and that everyone's desires come to live in a place free of pressure, expectations, and constraints, and that artists and collectors can meet and begin their journey in a space no longer dictated by exclusivity.
